Chapter 03
Recipes and technical sheets
Create, import, scale, cost, photograph, and reuse professional recipes.
Recipes are the center of Heard Chef. Each recipe can hold structured ingredients, yield, preparation, photos, allergens, cost data, tags, and reusable base preparations.
Create a recipe
From Recipes, choose:
- New recipe for direct entry;
- Generate with AI to describe the dish conversationally;
- Import to read PDF, Excel, CSV, TXT, or image content.
When using voice, describe the recipe naturally: dish name, yield, ingredients with quantities, and method. Review the generated structure before saving.
Review before saving
Check these fields first:
- recipe name and yield;
- ingredient quantity and unit;
- correction/yield factors where trim or cooking loss matters;
- preparation order;
- source Price Book when prices are involved.
AI and imports can accelerate entry, but they do not replace culinary review.
Work with the technical sheet
The recipe detail page groups operational information without losing the relationship between quantities and cost. You can:
- scale the recipe;
- edit ingredients and steps;
- add a cover and step photos;
- review cost total and cost per portion;
- set pricing inputs and inspect margin;
- identify allergens;
- add tags and notes;
- request missing ingredient prices.
Changes use inline editing and autosave where indicated. Wait for the saved state before leaving after a critical edit.
Base preparations
A sauce, dough, stock, filling, or other repeated preparation can become a base preparation/sub-recipe. Heard Chef stores a snapshot inside the parent recipe so later changes can be reviewed instead of silently rewriting historical work.
Prices and units
Ingredient costs come from matches in the active Price Book. If a cost is missing:
- verify the ingredient name and unit;
- match it to an existing product;
- import the supplier's price list;
- use Find missing prices;
- check density, package unit, and yield-factor assumptions.
Duplicate, translate, and export
Duplicate a recipe when you want a variation without changing the source. Translation creates a new translated copy. PDF/print export follows your plan's branding rules, and cookbook export combines multiple recipes.
